Waikare Whangamarino Wetlands Restoration — WWWR — is a community initiative supporting the restoration and long-term protection of Lake Waikare and the Whangamarino Wetland.
What we do

Landowners, scientists, schools, iwi organisations, community groups and agencies, around one table.
We support practical restoration
Planting, monitoring, pest work and the unglamorous jobs that add up.
We build community backing
Political commitment follows public commitment. That’s the part only a community can supply.
We keep our community’s voice in it
Whatever happens next here, local people should have a say in it.

Restoration needs everyone at the table
It will not happen through one council, government agency, farmer, iwi organisation or community group acting alone. It requires all of us — and generations of people willing to keep going.
Te reo names, local history and mātauranga belong throughout this story. WWWR works respectfully alongside mana whenua rather than speaking for them.
